Remote-first culture

Here at Yello, we are considered “remote-first” and have employees all over the US. We use Slack to stay connected and foster collaboration. Around 50% of our employees are located in Illinois, and we have an office in Chicago that folks can use if they live nearby. Working in the office is completely optional. Some people come in one day a week and some come in once a quarter – it is up to the individual.

Did you know that the term “remote-first” is different from “work from anywhere”? Here at Yello, we currently have 20 states within the US that we are set up to do business in. Those states (highlighted on the map) are: AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, MA, MI, NC, NH, NJ, NV, NY, PA, TX, TN, VA, and WI.

Within my first year at Yello, three characteristics stand out the most from my interactions within the Engineering department: support, autonomy and challenge. My manager has supported my personal vision for the direction of my growth. I've been given autonomy to take on high visibility projects with high level stakeholders solely based on previous knowledge and exposure.

As a remote-first team, we care a lot about staying connected. Every week, we celebrate birthdays on Slack, and we shout out employee anniversaries and promotions each month. We love to have fun together virtually and in-person for events like March Madness, our annual charity auction, and twice a year in-person get-togethers in Chicago.

  • The RECSY’s
    Think the Dundie’s, but more Yello-y. Everyone gets an award and funny is the name of the game! You could be the next Walking Jukebox or King of GIFs.
  • Founders’ and Presidents Clubs
    Once a year, we recognize the peer-nominated MVP, Rookie of the Year & Growth Awards, and also spotlight quota-carrying employees who exceeded their quotas for everything they do to help Yello succeed.

Transparency is vital to the culture at Yello and a big part of how we stay connected. We connect and share information each week with a 10-minute company stand-up and a note from Corey Ferengul, Yello’s CEO.
